Does anyone use a Aquaclear 50 for a 55 gallon. I bought the 50 for my new 55 gallon tank and was told by three stores to buy the fifty, so I did. Another store said if I use a fifty I will have to clean the tank three times a week. I asked another question on this board and they said a fifty was not enough I need more filtration. Please help I will return the 50 if it is not enough.

I'd go with the 110 if you can afford it. More filtration the better.

i would get both the 50 and the 70. this would be better than the 110 or anything higher because it would provide more space for bacteria colonies to live at.

I use 2 filters on most tanks. It depends on stocking levels too but I'd use at least an AC 70 & the AC 50 you have. That way you can alternate cleaning them & have better water movement too.

Most filters at best, can be considered to handle half their rated size. I'd take it back and get the 70 or the 110 depending on your stocking plans.

I have an AC 110, Emperor 400 and Marineland Magnum 250 on mine. I would not put an AC 50 alone on a 55g and expect it to get the job done. I run an AC 50 on my 10g.

agree with all of the above. I bought the 50 at first, and as soon as I got it out of the box I hoped it was bigger lol. I am using the AC70 and a sunsun canister.

It's great having 2 filters running, especially when you can stagger the maintenance if each.
