Aquarium levelling

Yeah, I just checked the level again... it's smaller than I thought (only 1/4" over 60"), but I'm still going to try to figure out a way to shim the sucker. Stupid concrete floor :)

If you still want to do the leveling job, find a strong point in the stand and place a car jack underneath it and lift it just enough to place the shimmers.

You'll need one people to lift the jack and another to place the shims. If the lifting spot is sturdy enough, you could even lift the tank with some water in it. Maybe leaving a few inches will keep the fishes fine till the work is done. Just make sure the floor can stand the jack.

Screw the floor, worry about the tank-n-stand!

Are you using the water line as your level? That is a bad idea because water filters moce the water and push it to one side or the other. Take a level and check the top of the tank that way. On my tank it is dead on level but if you look at the water it looks like the front is lower than the back.

The water line is steady because my filter line is underwater.
I have a level and I used it and it's about 1/4" off from side to side.

I spoke with my structural engineer at work and he said that it will be fine (i'm still going to fix it anyway), but he did say (to my surprise) that 1/2" glass was the limit for that weight of water. After doing the calculations for 1/2" plate glass (using the weakest bending stress allowable) he said that 18" was the limit for that kind of weight... granted he was using a 4x safety factor.

All in all, lesson learned. Shim before I stock :)
