ok...so I picked up a FW test kit for my two tanks and decided to test it out last night.

so first i decided to check my tap water

PH - 7.8

GH & KH - this is where i had problems.......the instructions says after one drop it should turn the water blue and green respectively....those test kits says the water should go from blue to yellow and green to orange...well with i did both of those test...the water never turned BLUE or GREEN...they went straight to YELLOW and ORANGE.....is that possible...i live in the bay area..where i keep hearing we have hard water

so then i decide to test the tank water

Ammonia test........first my established 10gallon tank.... and it came up with 0ppm....which didn't surprise me its been up and running for almost a year....very healthy and active goldfish.....i then tested my 55g (which is a week into cycling) and it also came up 0ppm....which doesn't seem right. I have 4 Giant Danio's in there to cycle with it (please keep cycling with fish comments to yourself)

so after that i decided to call it a night. Does this sound right? I followed the instruction excatly....might I have an old test kit? i ordered from Bigalsonline i doubt they'd send me an old kit.

opinions?

Your alkalinity test seems to be telling you that your "KH" is as low as mine. Water in the Bay Area varies: Hetch Hetchy water is very soft.

What I have to do to get any titration is multiply the test volume by 3-- to 15ml. Then I get a reaction on the second drop. Then you divide by three.

Download a "Consumer Confidence report" from your water utility.

yea i ahve that test kit, i also have a saltwater that was given to me, but the hardness test sucks.
