Preferrably in the DC Metro area. I need enough to build a nice cave network for some african cichlids (a couple of black and/or yellow calvus, and some tankmates which I have not yet decided on). So, hopefully this gives you an idea of sort of the types and sizes I would be seaking... just various shapes and such that I can put together however.

Thanks!

One of the cheapest and easiest places I have found to get rock is from landscape supply places and rockyards. They are usually able to tell you exactly what kind of rock it is and where it was quarried from.

I go to construction sites that basically have the excess earth, I got some new pics but I snagged about 10 pounds of various rocks, tested them with PH Down and only lost maybe 5 rocks to the test, boiled em for an hour then baked em at 350 for 2 hours to make sure they were ok. The fish became recipients tonight and love it.

Its easier collecting then buying, they are free laying around the world and have some of the neatest natural shapes and colors available.

I was on a collecting binge up here in the forrest dry stream beds hauling out lots of great rocks and mini boulders and have collected over 300 pounds on different trips and did the usual cleaning as said above. then i was informed by a friend who seen my tanks after i added the rocks he asked where i found those nice rocks i told him and he said mmmm didnt you know thats illegal to take them from there. i honestly didnt so i havent went back for more but i sure would like to, so now i stick to browsing landscape rock piles. make sure you have permission when you collect off your own property.

If you want, let me know the name of the creek and what county it is located in and Ill let you know if its illegal or not.

All I was aware of was it was ILLEGAL to pick up native american artifacts in any state.
