Can you guys (and girls) tell me where I might find some more slate for the tank? The slate that I found is quite thick ( 3/4 to 1" thick) and I would really like to find some that is less thick. Thanx.

You can also get slate floor tiles form Home Depot or Lowes pretty cheap...they come in several different sizes ( 4",6",8" upto around 12" to 16")...You can use then as they are or you can take them and break them to the size you need. If you break them be sure to chip off any really sharp edges you might get so the fish wont get hurt on it.

thats what I did..Home Depot I think the 12" was $1.70 or so. I may go get some more to break up and silicone me some slate caves up

Call and ask my parents real nice like I did. They are in the middle of nowhere in NV with tons of the stuff around them. I've got 50lbs in my 125 gal tank right now. Alternatively you can buy it on ebay for about $1 per lbs + shipping or at home improvement places for about the same price.

BTW if you want a thinner slate thickness just take and old chisel and hammer, turn the piece sideways and split it along the lines. Slate is used so often in building because it is comprised of solidified layers of clay. The layers make it easy to break flat.
