Aquarium Water turning White

everytime i start a tank i have the same thing happen to me.. it usually coincides with an ammonia spike, but not all the time. after a few days to a week it tends to go away.

i'd assume its a bacteria bloom as well.. cuz it's so common in a cycling tank.. but anyways, good luck with it.

I would take a jar of water from the clear tank and add it to the cloudy one. The bacteria responsible for cloudiness are not the same ones in the nitrogen cycle--those bacteria do not float in the water column. Other bacteria, that feed on other things in the tank, are normal, and usually kept in check by a balance of food availability and predators. If there is too much food, or no predators, they can get out of control. Let the tank stabilize (ie, don't do any huge water changes--this frequently replenishes the food source), and introduce a jar of water, and some mulm *the grunge in the gravel) from the other tank to stock some of the micro predators on the bacteria. This should help.

If I leave the tank for days, It stays the same way, another thing, I have a Cascade water filter, and because of the water falling down, I can see that some bubbles are made, white one, I will send a picture of it, so I think this has to do with my problem, Like if the water has soap or something....

What can I do ??

i've never heard of a cascade water filter..

but yes that does look like soap, in which case you should change all your filter media, and rinse out your filter too. dump all the water that's in the tank now.. rinse all the gracel/decorations/ everything you have in there that isnt a living creature. and put brand new clean water in the tank.

i have seen ammonia cause foaming at the top of aquariums.. but not like that.

have you ever used soap or detergent on the tank or anything in the tank?

I think not, we always just throw the water away, rinse with fresh water,,, then put fresh water, add the drops , and that´s it, but still, wait 1 week and started to see the water turning white....

Is it ok to put Purrified Water instead of Tap Water???

Thanks

I would think that the foam was some ampiphilic (soap-like) product produced by the bacteria bloom -- maybe comes from some protein film that built up. Just a hunch. It would take a considerable amount of soap contamination to look like that. That kind of contamination probably wouldn't slip past you.

Finally!!!

Hey guys!!!! I clean up the aquarium completly, with soap and everything, change all the water, and took out the ocean shells, and the problem was over, so my conclusion for this is, dont put any ocean shell that is not plastic.

Hope this helps someone else!

Thanks for everything.

this is not something to learn from, sorry to be harsh, but chaning all the water only sorts out your problems in the short term its likely to be back. If it happens again do small water changes often. the chances are you have killed off all bacteria that helps in breaking down ammonia and nitrites which is probably the cause of the white water

I will consider that, but before, I changed the water, and after two or three days the water was all white, and now it has been five days and the water is more trasnparent that ever! hehe

But still, If I see white coming, I´ll consider your advice!
Thanks Again
