I have two 10 gallon aquariums right here in my office. this started about 2 months, one aquarium started to turn white (water), and after a week I can´t even see the fish, so I cleaned up my aquarium, and after a week it happened again, and again. what should I do ?, when I claned the aquarium, I cleaned everyting.. I also have some ocean shells for decoration, does this have anything to do?

I took a picture of my poor aquarium

well......almost looks like tiny bubbles
ya know when you get hot water straight out the tap it usually has tiny gas bubbles in it.....perhaps that??
And the ocean shells could be contributing to it
I am thinking we need water specs to help further
who knows, it could be the water is super hard and reacting with something in the tank

How are the fish? still happy?

Sea shells in a freshwater setup will defintely fool with the water chemistry I would defintely take them out. I'm not sure if they would make the water white or not, but they are bad in an FW set up.

Secondly, you're probably having a bacteria bloom (I'm not expert, but thats what it sounds like). Your aquarium has ample food for bacteria and in response the bacteria are multiplying like nuts. Since you've set your aquarium up again this isn't a cause for too much concern - it won't hurt your fish. There are chemicals that can fix it (I'm not sure if they're avaliable where you are), but I would just let it continue. Soon, the water will come back to normal when the amount of bacteria reaches an equilibrium with the present amount of food for them. I would keep an eye on your water parameters. You can find more info by looking up bacteria blooms on this forum or on google.

Hope that helps.

Guys,,, that´s what I call Fast Answers!!

Thank a lot both of you,, I would try to sort this problem, and buy does chemic things that would help to solve this problem, because both aquariums here have the same problem. maybe at first the water had some bacteria, and now I have to deal with it.

Thanks!

The chemical might clear it up, but you'd be better off just waiting it out. It's a natural process and the fish aren't harmed by it.

Defintely take out the shells.

Hey jacblades ! What does the magazine says,,, here in Mexico I think we dont have that kind of magazines, maybe I could find it, but it will take me time.....

I'm tired of cleaning and cleaning the aquarium and the water turns white.......

Also have a 40 gallon at my house, but that one is in great shape.!, that's why I think bigger aquarium are more clear and clean..

Thank you guys...

in a nutshell:
make sure you are not over feeding-the fish could be rustling up old food from the bottom to cloud the water
make sure you have good filtration

*probably a bacteria bloom and most likely your bio media is not established yet. eventually these bacteria are replaced by the good bacteria and the water will become clear again.

maybe you should get some cycle or stress zyme or a product like that to speed it up.
