I have a 29 gallon community tank that is not finished yet and I am considering adding angels. My tank has cycled and the current inhabitants are: 5 zebra danios, 4 Corys, and 3 Serpae Tetras. Would angels be good fit in this tank and if so how many? (I am also looking into Blue Rams or kirbensis as another option.)

I have a 29 gallon and I have 4 angels in it right now. I also have some het. rasboras and they do fine together. my angels are about 6 inches high and I would say they need more room. two are a breeding pair and so that might be why I say they need more room. Just make sure you provide plenty of plant cover for them to hide in. They love live plants too, especially amazon swords, since those are native to their waters. Personally I think angels look sweet in a 29. I say go for it. Just make sure not to put neon tetras in with angels. THEY WILL GET EATEN! I learned the hard way.

Since you already have 12 fish I would go with maybe 2 or 3 angels if they are small. I don't know how they will do with the danios. The tetras should be fine and the cory cats will be fine too.

a 29 will not be enough space for angels as they mature. especially 4. 2 is pushing it awfully tight. lot of attention to water quality important if you go down that road. i would keep it purely South American if you do.

In my opinion you can overshock your tank a little if you have a good filter and do water changes. At one time I had 10 angels in the 29 gallon and I am not talking about quarter size angels either. I run two filters on the tank though so that might matter. I'm not a big danio fan so I would probably just throw them in a big tub of water outside in the summer and let them breed like crazy out there. That way you have some room for angels. One big angel might look neat in the 29.

Watch your serpae tetra. I used to have some that were EXTREMELY nippy. For some reason, not all of them are though. Just watch and if anyone has damaged fins, you can probably blame the serpae tetra.

Is it a 29 tall? I have a 29 tall and I think it would really be pushing it to put angel fish in there. If it is a 29 long, I wouldn't even consider putting angels in there, because there wouldn't be enough verticle room for swimming.

I wouldn't put angels in a 29 gallon, but I'm obviously not you, so you can do it if you want to. :)

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I just read the post above mine, 1 angel might look nice.

rule of thumb for angels..1 per 10 gallons.

when they are young you can keep more but be prepared to move them.

they do okay in a community tank..if you wind up with a breeding pair they may chase to other fish to far corners..fyi, sexing angels is very difficult until they pair up

you may be okay with a coupke given your stock levels..keep up on the wc's
