I'm from the uk and was given a jade eye instead of a convict. Can anyone tell me more information about them......
I have bred convicts before and soon realized that this fish was not a convict. Are they from the same family? or maybe a hybrid?
To my surprise she then paired with one of my adult male convicts and successfully raised 250 plus fry.
She is not a female convict. Her colouring and shape are similar to that of the blue eye cichlid on badmans site, but when I recently went to the aquatic centre I bought her from they were selling jade eye cichlids, she is identical. Are these breeds one or the same? are they supposed to breed with other species? Please help....

Blue eyed cichlids are know as Archocentrus Sajica or T-Bar cichlid. I'm am not sure about the jade eye. Possibly the same fish.

I do know however that the convict the sajica and the archcentrus spilurus wll all cross breed if mixed in the same tank and given the chance.

I have heard people call the spilurus "the friendly convict" in the past. It has that tell tale dagger like line that starts at the top of the head and goes through the eye.

I am currently breeding the sajica and have breed the spilurus in the past. Both are great looking fish.

Here are some pictures of the sajica and spilurus.
