and it's not just a matter of those few sharks being saved. . . . the entire project is aimed at conservation efforts. at the time the sharks were caught for the aquarium, taiwan (where they were caught, intended for food if the aquarium hadn't bought them instead) had a catch limit of 60 whale sharks per year. because so many people felt compassion for the animals, they have dropped down to 30 sharks per year. since there is such a worldwide interest because of what the GA has done, they are now able to offer eco-tours for people to come and see whale sharks swimming in their natural habitat, instead of being killed for food. eventually they will stop hunting them altogether.
