So I've been dealing with fin rot on two bettas. Treated with salt, trisulfa and now Jungle Fungus Eliminator. The fin rot was almost gone, I just go home from work and bammm!!! it's back again!!! :sad:
I just don't know how to beat it! Yesterday was the first day they came off the Trisulfa (2 runs of it), so I don't know if that had anything to do with it...
I really want my bettas to make it! I have them in betta bowls floating in a tank to isolate them. Should I continue with the Jungle Fungus Eliminator. I heard Melafix may work.... Any suggestions???
 
Your bettas may be different, so it might be worth a try, but melafix seemed to make the fins on my betta worse :sad: ! I used bettafix (which smells the same to me as melafix...) and that seemed to help, but it sounds like your case is more severe
 
I'm going to do a w/c tonight with some more of the Fungus Elim. I went to the LFS and got some MelaFix (just incase the Fungus Elim doesn't work), and the guy told me that the fin rot could be caused by my water and to just bottled water. This can't be true can it?

Then someone else suggested that instead of using new tap water on every change, just take some of the cycled water from the tank and use that. That way it wouldn't be as stressful in uncycled water. Could that be affecting their fin rot?

I JUST WANT IT TO GO AWAY!!! :(
 
Which type of fin rot do they have? Fungal or bacterial?

Forget the melafix/betta fix they are the same product both rarely work like they promise.

If it is a fungal (rounded edges) I have found that keeping the water very clean and at a consistant temp (very little ot no fluctuations) and some methaline blue works wonders. If you want you can also swab on some mecurachrome onto the fish with a q-tip. Just make sure to not get it anywhere near the fishes gills.

Just swab it one blow on it a bit to allow it to semi dry and place the fish into some new water.

If it is bacterial (jagged edges) and the sulfa isn't working try something a little stronger like Neomyacyn or kanacyn.
They both do a great job. Sulfa is good as well but I find it quite mild.

If you can't get the neo at the store the kanacyn should be there. Most good LFS' carry one or the other or both. They are both made by a company called Aquatronics

You could also always order it online. Most places ship in 24 hours.

I dont know much about your tank but have you tried tackling the problem at the source. There is something that is causing this fin rot and 9 times out of 10 it is water quality.What size is your tank? how much filtration do you have? I know it is difficult but have you tried 30-40% water changes every day? If I had your problem first I would try and find the source of the problem, then I would use salt and do water changes everday adding the calculated dose of salt that you have just taken out with your water change. You don't want to be adding salt on top of salt.
