As a tree climber...

I need to learn how to carve like that. Instead of taking em all the way down, I could charge em for me to carve something cool.

I recently learned the origin of why we "knock on wood."

I guess people used to believe the gods lived in the trees. When they sought help or answers they would touch the tree as they spoke their prayer. Once the prayer was answered they went back to the tree and knocked on it as thanks.

So we kind of took the meaning and twisted it around over the years.

I was just reminded about that from those pictures. I like the pieces you can buy to add to your tree to create a face. Like these...

Kind of creepy, but kind of mystical in the same right. I love a nice big, climbing tree.

I think id freak out if i was walking through the woods and saw a face in a tree.

same here. lots of bears and lots of large gnomes...but they only do them to stumps and poles...not to living trees
I believe they only do stumps and poles here also. I can't recall seeing any on living trees.
