Well, lately I have been watching my assassin snails breed and sort of keeping an eye on the progress and taking occasional pics, so I thought I would share with you guys for anyone interested in what the snail's eggs or breeding habits look like etc.. :)

A LOT of eggs! For those that have not seen Assassin eggs, they are those square pouches with the yellow dot in them.

Baby Assassin.. To kind of put the size in perspective, that is small gravel with a very young ramshorn snail. That Assassin is teeny. :)

Thank you for posting, I didn't know what the eggs looked like & now I know what to look for. I have seen one baby in my tank & I'm thinking the fish must be eating the rest. What all do you have in your tank with the assassins?

No problem :) . I have assassins in quite a few of my tanks. Some of them are with guppies, some are with endlers, and I have a tank of shrimp and cories where I have a few as well. I doubt your fish are eating them. Baby assassin snails usually bury themselves for a LONG time and live in the substrate most of the time. It's actually pretty rare I see my babies in the gravel tanks and I never see them in my sand tanks until they are almost adults. I bet you have more than one baby and they are just buried unless you have fish that like to eat snails such as puffers, loaches, or goldfish. If you DO think your fish are eating them, you could always look for the plant parts with eggs on them and pull them to a grow out tank until they are bigger. Assassin snails like to lay their eggs at the base of plants and especially if you have stuff like anubias or java fern tied to driftwood. They also love to lay their eggs in sponges.

Thanks for posting the pictures, they are nice close ups, especially of the eggs.

Sweet pics, Ash!!

Thanks Dudley! Thanks Em!!
Iheartbettas - I was really excited the first time I saw a baby one also. I just started to get more and more curious about the eggs and then it occurred to me that there are really not that many pics out there of assassin eggs or mating habits etc.. (although Msjinkzd posted a great shot of a sponge COVERED with their eggs a little while back.). So, I decided to grab pictures of them and post them up. :)

Awesome pictures! I might get some soon, I've seens ome contaminate the pet store's tanks, but I need to raise up my MTS army

Thanks! Also, I am about to be selling off a BUNCH of assassins after the new year when shipping is back to normal, so let me know if you would ilke some. =)

I'm so hoping to see some babies in my tank as well. I have two of them that seem to mate all the time, but I've never seen eggs or babies, at least not yet. They're in a 10 gallon tank, so I guess there's a chance the parents are killing their babies? Either way, I have plenty of ramshorn snails in all my other tanks, so they get at least a few of those a week to feed on.
