Greetings all :)
For 2 weeks now my 55g planted has been overun by snails that I probably picked up on some plants I bought. I did not know about soaking them first, (and this was from a very reputable firm) After picking them out I purchased 3 assassin snails. They are tiny and I put them in my tank but today they seem to have completely disappeared :uhoh:. The others are thriving... Is this normal? Appreciate the info/experience as I'm a bit worried...

Depending on how small they are, and how well planted your tank is you may just not be seeing them in the vegetation. They will on occasion bury themselves in the substrate as well. I have a heavy planted 29 with atleast 50 assassin snails in it, but i can never find more then 10-15 at a time without getting into the tank and rooting around.

Not unheard of. I have 3 larger assasins in a ten gallon and on any given day I can't find them all. I only confirmed they were all alive yesterday when they were all in the same 5 inch square area.

This really helps, thanks much. I won't get too concerned. However if they are in the substrate isn't there a danger when vacuuming?

Yup which means you have to really be careful, I have them breeding in a 30 gallon and it's hard to tell how many I suck up when I vacuum.

I have them in a MTS tank. At least it had MTS in it. It takes them awhile to catch up population wise (the MTS reproduce faster than the Assasins do) but once you get a large population of Assasins they will wipe them out. It will take months to happen depending on how many assasins you start with and what size tank you have.

I put a piece of sponge at the top of my gravel vac when I do my snail tanks. It catches the mulm and you can see your snails if they get sucked up.
