I have to temporarily relocate my assassins to a tank that isn't riddled with pest snails while the other tank gets treated for disease. What should I feed them while they are in there? The whole reason I got them is because they have an unlimited snail buffet in my 15 gallon tank and I don't want to add ANY pest snails to my 10 (where they are temporarily) so I'm wondering what I could supplement their diet with until I can re-home them in their pest-snail heaven. Also is it true that they eat shrimp molts?

yes, they will eat shrimp molts(at least in my tank:))......u can feed them veggies or algae wafers too.........but they should be fine without feeder snails for a while........

Oh, from the research I had done they were solely carnivorous. Good to know, thanks. I'm curious to see if they eat the molt in my tank that I found this morning

Yup, iheartbettas, it their exoskeleton. If you ever own shrimp and see what looks exactly like your shrimp but white and "dead" it's the molt. Interesting fact, shrimp will make themselves larger after they molt by puffing up with air or water so the exoskeleton that grows to replace it is bigger than the shrimp itself so it doesn't have to molt as often, when they are most vulnerable. Just learned that in my ZOO10 (beg, zoology) class, and got tests about it Wednesday, thought it was kind of cool...

EDIT: haven't seen them eat the molt yet, btw. I was kinda interested in seeing that (IDK why). But dropped frozen spirulina in there for everyone, snails got to it before the shrimp! Surprised me

well, shrimp always follow others to food;)

this is hilarious

my shrimp are sitting on this piece of zuchinni right? and my baby plecos come and start bunching around stuffing themselves, and that is when my shrimp decide to start eating as if they needed to be sure its safe and its food????
