I have 13 peppered cories in my tank, 2 from an original batch and 11 new ones. The 2 original ones are fully grown, and I have witnessed them laying eggs, the rest however are still fairly small. Most of them are around 1.5" in length, and I have had them for around 6 months (guessing here, as I can't remember when I got them).

So, when can I start expecting to possibly see them breeding?

Thanks.

They are related to the aeneus and if memory serves me correctly, anywhere from a year on. Adult size for the peppered cories is close to 3" so yours have a bit more growing to do. While the different species of cories mature at different ages and spawn at different ages, the environment they are kept in and their diet play important roles in order for them to reach breeding age and condition when expected. I feed my potential breeding cories 2X a day until they have reached adult size and would recommend several feedings a week of frozen bloodworms. It is an exellent conditioning food for cories. As your females begin to plump up, I would increase the frozen bloodworm feedings and decrease the flakes and pellets. Given what they need, I think you'll see your young cories begin to spawn early by mid-year next year.

Thanks, yeah the smaller ones are at least half the size of the 2 adults that I have. Mid next year is fine with me, and they already love bloodworms, but then so does everyone else in the tank!!

The youngest I've witnessed breed is my panda cories aged at 8ish months reared in my own tanks- the group is always laying eggs like theres no tomorrow.
