Anyone have a recommendation (or condemnation) of any auto feeders? I am going to have to travel for business for 4-5 days twice at the end of next month and I may want to pick one up, although from what I have read here it may not be necessary. How long can fish survive without feeding? A week?

For a 4-5 day absence I would just not feed the fish. Feed them well the night before you leave and they will be fine. Auto feeders have a tendency to break and feed a whole lot of food at once causing much more damage than not feeding them will.

I use a neighbor.

I have them stop by every 3 days and dump a single ziploc bag of food in.

I hide the real containers, so they can't over feed.

I don't have anyone here who I know who I would trust to feed my fish. I have a community tank and I only have 7 very small fish at the moment. I think they'll be OK for 4 days, but I might try that recommendation. I'd rather have to do a water change when I get back than have to net out dead fish!

I saw some disolving blocks the other day at my local fish store.there are different ones for the length of time a person would be gone......:dance2:

Those white dissolving blocks use plaster of paris to bond the food, will totally mess with the tanks chemistry. I did see some tho that were not made with plaster but were just slowly released into the water column but they were awfully small. Look at petsmart thats where I saw them

The fish in my signature are the only ones currently in the tank, but I expect to have more by the end of next month.
