I bought a baby bichir this Monday and havent seen him eat anything yet. I know sometimes it takes a lil while for a newly bought fish to get used to their new environment but I was wondering what I should be feeding to my bichir? I have tried sinking shrimp pellets and small night crawler chunks...those are what my big senegal bichir eat.

When my bichirs were about 2 1/2-3 inches I fed them blood worms and beef heart and shrimp pellets, they love the pellets to this day!

start with frozen(defrosted) bloodworms and gradually add other foods. You might need to cut pellets in half and presoak them first-Annne

what kind of bichir is it? pics <i just love bichirs>? I fed mine sinking shrimp pellets when they were little. How little is this one?

I agree w/sinking pellets, shrimp pellets & earthworm pellets. Mine eats a variety of sinking stuff. He is beefing up a bit so we started to feed frozen worms, krill, and he eats "meaty jello" which is a mix of gelatin w/blood worms, shrimp pellets, krill, tubiflex, and sun dried shrimp. I took the snail jello recipe and took out the babyfood and used just water and a powdered mix of the foods mentioned. Stunk up my kitchen but the poly loves it :)
Mine isn't a baby anymore tho he is growing up fast! *sigh*

Wardley shrimp pellets are very good for baby bichirs. They actually break up in the water so it's very easy for them to eat. Keep in mind this can be messy so don't over feed.

I just have a video I posted on youtube of my baby bichir. My camera wasn't taking good pictures last night but I do have frozen blood worms that I can try to feed him this evening. I also have the wardley sinking pellets but haven't yet seen him eat these. Hope he starts eating soon:)

New bichirs in general can take some time to begin feasting, so to speak. I would imagine juveniles taking even longer. I wouldn't worry about it or go out and buy too many different things. He'll take what you have when he gets hungry enough. Once he realizes it's food, he'll go for it henceforth whenever he smells it.
