Baby Snails! (do I pass out ceegars for them too?)

:dance:About 2 weeks ago I saw some snail egg clutches on the lid of my shrimpie/snail tank (posted this thread: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85876)

Doing my morning check-out of the tanks and saw these tiny little snails; about 30 at my best count. Took a look at the oldest clutch, it had holes in it (almost fell off as I was nudging it, so removed it altogther)

Yep-that's were they came from! Lots of empty eggs!

Here's a pic of the babys (as best as I could get this early in the morning with only one cup of coffee):

The other small snails are the ones I moved from my community tank; must have hatched 2-3 weeks ago or so.

I've had my 2 snails forever and I've only had 1 baby snail show up in the tank and that was when I bought a live plant from the LFS.

They're toooo cute!!

I just bought a whole pile of Mystery snails off E-bay. They should be here in a day or two. I'm hoping to get some little babies someday too!!

Mom & Dad came from the batch I got off ebay; ones from PetSmart all died off except for one or two....

OOOPS!

Found out this evening when I came home that all the snails hadn't hatched yet!

I had set the clutch down on the table that the tank is on, showered went to work, came home to find about 30 dried up baby snails all around the clutch...

Note to self: leave the **** things alone!

Question: I'm assuming the clutches will fall off and get eaten when done hatching?

I can still see snails hatching in your pic are you sure they are all hatched? A clutch that size can produce well over 100 snails.

edit: guess not, toss the little ones back into the tank, they may possibly still be alive!

Usualy the clutches will crumble when finished but if they don't then I usualy crumple them into the water to give any stragglers a chance.

When you see a clutch turn dark and begin to hatch there is nothing wrong with taking the clutch and swishing is around in the tank to "free" all the babies. I do it almost everytime because I am impatient. You don't have to throw away the empty clutch, just drop it into the water and leave it. It will dissolve shortly. Be careful will cana clutches, they are known to be toxic to certain fish. Brig clutches are no problem though.
