Back2School

I'm taking 4 credit hour this semester, plus some intensive 2-3 days courses--and it's been a mess, and exhausting. I'm taking American Sign Language, which is really interesting, but tough--'flapping hands', as our teacher calls it, is a lot of work! Other class will begin in 2 weeks, 3 days of ArcView. I'd planned on taking Building GeoDatabases I & II, but they were canceled due to low enrollment, so will try and pick those up in Denver in February 06.

On a related note--one of my coworkers just made it back from New Orleans--his daughter was supposed to start at Toulane this fall. They evacuated to his sisters in Missouri, and now are trying to get her enrolled in a college locally for this semester while all 'that' gets sorted out and Toulane opens back up.

I heard on the news last night that a few of the smaller universities in Missouri are offering free tuition plus free room and board for students affected by Katrina. This is only for this current semester but i think its great that universities are helping out.

 :thm: Way to go learning ASL! If you get really good at it, we can communicate that way :joke: Keep it up, you'll be happy you've learned ASL in long run.
"flapping hands" is common phrase ha ha. I've noticed that you're from wyoming... may I ask who your teacher is? I might know him/her?

several things to say ...lol

i would love to take a cousre on american sign language ..due to some of my sons health problems he is learning sign language to help further his communication abilities! ...it seems to be helping ...he is learning a modified version, they baically give him the sign and he adapts it to something similar that he is able to asociate ...usually its deviates by his fingers being used more or less for each sign ..but i understand him!

i started back on the 22 of aug...associates in criminal justice!

my daughter starts her very first day on the 13 ...boohooo!

kas, ..is the digital pen you are talking about th eone that basically snaphots your notes then you can down load them into the comp? i saw those on good morning america and thought it was a great idea! ..youll have to let me know if it helps or not and how well it really works!

its great that you are going back ems ...i hope you like it and good luck!

My son's elementary in Oak Park IL (near Chicago suburb) has $200 book rental and about $60 worth of school supplies. Apparently film, ziplock bags, Clorox wipes, kleenex and anti-bacterial lotion are all now standard school supplies.

Here it's baby wipes (for cleaning hands :) ), kleenex, and photocopy paper.

School (college) started last week for me. The highlight of this semester will definately be Ichthyology, a weekly all-day class held at the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Reserve. Lots of field work. I'm stoked.

I'm going to try! I took French in high school and college, and this is much more enjoyable.

Lisa Dignan is my teacher--I know she does a lot of work in the community around here, interpreting at churches and in schools often.

For those who think it's easier--check out this website: www.asl.ms It's just fingerspelling, but see how well you can get it at the 'deaf' speed. From what I've been told, and seen, that's pretty accurate for how fast fluent ASL users go.
