Right, I just bought myself a nice blue background from a roll in my LFS. Only thing is, Ive attached it to the back of my tank and its coming through the glass and water completely black.

What?
Is?
Happening?

any ideas?
thanks!
Mark

The back of the glass is distorting/reflecting light so the colors aren’t clear. I had to use a super thin layer of petroleum jelly on my backs (between the glass and plastic back) for the colors to come through. You will also have to ‘squeegee’ out any bubbles that form. At least this is what I did, maybe others with have better ideas…

Thanks very much rowangel. Im assuming every tank in my LFS isnt covered in petroleum so Im guessing its only with certain types of glass this happens. Ive noticed a few bits of the plastic are sticking to the glass and the blue is coming through then. Who knows, I'll see what I can do.

Oh, while you are around....... what kind of set up/ferts/co2 for your plants in your 2.5 gallon?

thanks
Mark

I used Pet. Jelly with my tank with pretty good results. It needs to be reapplied to the corners every year r so but nonetheless, does a beautiful job. Almost as good as painting it on.

Sure…have fluorite substrate with 18w compact fluorescent coralife over-head, and use the flourish line for dosing, about 3x a week…let me get home and I’ll try to set-up a profile with some images for you. Well, actually, let me do it tomorrow after work, today is my birthday and tonight my friend is taking me out to eat at Biaggi’s. We'll see how motivate I am once stuffed with Italian food… :D
But I will try and get some pics up soon. I’ve been meaning to get together detailed profiles with plant lists and pictures of all my tanks but I just haven’t had a chance or the time yet. Plus, with all the edit changes taken off I’m nervous to post anything in ‘tank specs…’

Painted Backing

speaking of "painting it on", has anyone ever just painted the back of the aquarium to be dark blue or black? If so, what kind of paint works the best so that it doesn't flake off due to the hanging power filters?
