Badis badis burmanicus

I just scored four of these hard-to-find beauties (we had a thread here a month ago about the dwarf Scalet Badis) that I've been hunting for several years. They are in today's shipment at New World Aquarium in New York.

I also saw beautiful Aphyosemion amieti, and the S. American killi Nothobranchius rachovii-- three kinds of Apistos, not rare ones but looking great, Corydoras barbatus which I don't see every week, and tiny Rineloricaria of a kind I've never seen before (being fancifully called "Redfire Fox")

My reward for remembering to go in Tuesday night!

How'd I post this in the Cichlids Forum? oh well...

Saw some of the Badis badis burmanicus here at one of the better-stocked LFS's a couple of weeks ago. No place to keep them, however. Are you planning on trying to breed them? Would be interested in hearing how that goes.

Killifish are another group that don't get enough attention in the hobby. In another life, when I don't have all the cichlids, I'll just keep killies, I think. And will life be easier then? Who knows.

No Harry. It will not be simpler. You'll have all your friends saving margarine tubs and you'll have closets full of baggies of damp peat moss labelled "Noth. rach. 20 Oct" and stuff...

You bet I want these Badis to breed. I haven't even started to study them up. But I can still picture the watercolor illustration of Badis in Innes' book, that first whetted my appetite. I didn't even see any in the flesh til about two or three years ago. (Those were Badis badis badis.) So, I've been hankering after them vaguely for about forty years now...

hey,
I narrowly missed out on a pair a fortnight back.....

the lfs should be getting more next week......

i cant wait!!!!!!!

wetman, can you post any pics??

Here they are. Nice fish.

Since I am still exploring the wonderful world of cichlids I'll have to refrain from getting any until such time... Oh Hell! Who am I kidding!! If I see them at the LFS they're gonna end up in my tank so fast it'll make my head swim!!

Want me to send you those when I send the albino bristlenose Marcus? They're available up here quite often :D I actually thought it was strange the great selection of fish in Anchorage, comparatively to the KC area when I moved here. You can find most anything here, as long as you're willing to pay for it. I also occasionally order from the wholesaler they get them from, so yell if you want them too.

Thanks a lot, Marcus. I managed to fight off the impulse to buy them when I was at the LFS, but now that you've posted that darned photo, I may have to go back and pick them up. A little reading first to make sure they'll go where I want them to go...

Gorgeous fish. :):):)

How much do they cost for jeuvrnals and grown ups? Are the females red also? what si the max length inlcuding the tail?

I live in California. Where can I buy some?

Which badis badis xxx is the full name?

I did not see any more pics on the site. Did I missed it?

Thanks,

We're talking about two different fishes here.

My "Burma Badis" is most currently raised to a full species, Badis ruber, by Sven Kullander and R. Britz (abstract at the Swedish Museum of Nat. History site http://www.nrm.se/ve/pisces/badipage.shtml.en ), but Badis badis burmanicus is the more familiar name.

Marcus' picture is of the even more brilliant and even smaller Scarlet Badis, now shifted to a new genus, as Dario dario but it's more familiar as Badis sp. "Scarlet Gem."

The females are not as brilliant.

Interesting male care of the fry, I hear.
