Badis badis Info

I don't know if anyone has kept these little guys before or not. I've been hoping for the past few years that the LFS around here would finally get some in, and they did today. I picked up 6 of them, it appears I got two females and 4 males, they are still just little guys, not quite half an inch yet. From what I have read they need clean water, and a cooler water temp, cooler being mid 70's. I know they don't get large, and that they are quite peaceful. So any other info anyone can help me out with would be great. Been looking for these little labyrinth fish for years now as I said, so I'm super excited, lol.

if I recall correctly, Amano used five of those fish to eat large snails in one of his planted tanks but had to remove them as they were terrrorizing the other fish(dwarf frog, ottos...) hogged all the food and even uprooted plants.

they taxed his ingeniousness to get them removed as they were in about a 7 foot tank full of plants

I can't say that it sounds like them snake. They stay small, from the other info I've gathered around the web, they stay much smaller than listed on AC. And everything else says that they are very picky eaters, I haven't found snails in their diet anywhere. Pretty cool little guys though, very curious.

Badis badis males will get to a whopping 2.4-3 inches! When they come in they come in very small but they grow fast. They are not labyrinth fish but rather Badidae A family of fish all their own. In fact with all the new species recently discovered Kullander did a revision of the family. I have the full paper at the badis species study group website. I have written several articles on breeding them so check out the website. They do not need cool water to breed they will breed just fine in the 80 f . In nature they do come from cooler forest pools but they adapt very well to warmer water in the aquarium. They really enjoy frozen bloodworms and will breed in small caves. The males guards the eggs until they hatch. The babies will be too small for bbs and will need rotifers, infusoria or APR for the first week or so. Good luck with them.
