I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, so I apologize in advance for any inconvience.
I recently purchased 2 bamboo shrimp, and one, I assume is a female carrying (red???) eggs. I researched them before I bought them, but information is so limited so I thought I'd try here. I hear they aren't too picky on pH and such, but does anyone have temp reccomendations? Anybody notice any favorite foods? (I know they're filter feeders, but anything that breaks down...)
Anybody have any luck raising the eggs? Salinity reccomendations or anything?
Thanks so much,
Vanessa

I was also going to suggest petshrimp.com. They're a great source for shrimp breeding.

I would also recommend giving the bamboo shrimp some small, floating food for them to strain out of the water. Some people buy plankton (either dried or liquid solution, freeze-dried, whatever). They just make a little mix of it with tank water and squirt it into the filter outflow (the favorite place for bamboo shrimp to sit :) ). Others just crush flakes into a powder and place that in the filter stream.

Although they're supposed to be able to pick food up off the substrate, I never saw mine do that. I think they really prefer filter-feeding.

No matter what, make sure you maintain clean water. Bamboo shrimp are very sensitive to nitrates and have been known to be escape artists if they dislike water quality. Mine did that, crawled out of the tank in protest of dirty water, and expired :(

Here's a link with some info... http://www.petshrimp.com/bambooshrimp.html
(edit) Well duh... That link is to the place you guys were talking about.... oops.

Couldn't just die in the tank, eh? No... Just had to make a statement....

I had a Newt that did something similar. I guess he didn't like the tank... So he moved out. Found him in just around the corner living in the dog's water dish. The dog was not amused.

I lost a firebelly toad recently in protest. Not sure why it decided to bail it loved hanging out sitting on top of the much larger california toads.

One time I noticed one of my shrimps was hanging out near the top of my tank by my canisters outlet durring a water change. About 7-8 minutes into the water change I saw something moving around and realized my shrimp had been sitting out of water! It's didn't seem to mind either! I thought it was stuck so I went to help it out and I freaked it out and it jump across the tank into the water. I also sometimes see them sticking their heads out of the water (only a few times though). Can they breath air as well? Why do they sometimes do this?

I don't really feed my bamboo shrimp at all. I do put in algae wafers for Ottos and Snails though. I usualy find the shrimps haning out in the current's from my Canister (not next to the outlet but at the bottom corner I have it pointed at) I also setup my Red Sea 500 CO2 reactor next to a piece of driftwood. It only took a few hours before they found that location. They are fun to watch.
