Banana Plant Question

I have a banana plant in my 120 tall. When I first got it, it was in a 50 gallon freely floating around the tank at different levels and places in the tank. As a result (at lest I think so) it has developed roots, not the "bananas" at the bottom and extremely long stems for the leaves. Tallest is about 2 feet with the other about 2.5 inches shorter.

Could this be from a lack of nutrition from freely floating around in the other tank? Has anyone else experienced this with their banana plant? I am currently dosing CSM+B and KNO3 in the new tank with just a shop light up above with two GE plant/aquarium bulbs. Not the best lighting but it is working and the plants are growing for now. Would it be ok to snip these roots that have developed or will they go away with time? I've never had a plant like this.

Most places I read say this plant should stay around 6", mine has quadrupled that!!

Here is a pic for reference. It's in the middle, and the top leaf was damaged a little during the transfer.

i don't know about the height thing but my banana plant also has roots and it is not free floating, the bottoms of the lower bananas are stuck into the sand. it also has one root growing out of the same spot as the leaves recently but i think this may be it's way of reproducing. i did not know it had even grown roots until i rearranged my tank today.

My plant is doing the same thing. I probably have 7 floating pads which have grown roots and sent off shoots of their own. It is their way of reproducing but I don't know what the next step is. The leaves are about 5 inches across now.

I would just like mine to grow the "banana's" again. ;o)

I let the pads hit the water surface and then snip about 2 inches down. That leave will grow roots and thus a new plant.

OHHH I did not know that...THANKS for the info

awesome! Thanks for the info everyone! It has been rooted in since moving it to this tank. The 50 was temporary for it, ended up being a little longer than I had liked but hopefully I will start to see some progress with this one now that it's not just floating around where ever. The top leaf used to be about 3.5 inches across then during the move something happened to the leaves, but it is showing signs of improvement.

Thanks!!
