actually, the bright light from a heat lamp is beneficial.. they do recognize that as a place to bask, so the bright spot is where they go to get warm.
have you not looked into MVB? its heat and UV in one bulb... and you do not need heat at night unless temps get below around 65.. they are fine to get pretty cool at night.

i'll never go back to using two bulbs.. these are too awesome, and very much recommended.
