I have had some issues with my cherry shrimp tank lately. All probably my fault, first of all I used a tank that HAD dwarf puffers, which I fed live worms to. Who knows what hitch-hiked in with those worms. Anyway after a couple years the puffers died, and it became a shrimp tank.
Then probably from overfeeding I had tons of planaria, and maybe leeches (looked like a little moving thread). Nothing seemed to get rid of the planaria, and so I redid the tank, bare bottom, threw away the filter, transferred the shrimp back into it. A couple months later planaria showed up again.
Since then I added 2 scarlet badis, and they have cleaned the planaria out. They get BBS now and crushed flakes. The shirmp population is down to 4, 2 males, 2 females. I figured they would die off to, but I have been nursing them along as best I could.
Then, yesterday I looked REALLY closely at my shrimp because I was disappointed not to have ANY eggs, but it turns out the ladies are just so RED I couldn't see the eggs through them. So here's a little macro photography. Not the best, but I was just thrilled to see some eggs. Hopefully these few shrimp re-populate my tank!!!
Here's the female, notice she has sooooo many, they are draggin on the ground:

And the worm eaters, with the shrimp in the background, so you can get a size comparison. I do worry they will eat the baby shrimp, but we will see what happens! Maybe a few will survive.
