Have seen a few different forums in other sites about using the "best" filters, I run two tetra power whisper filters but have had some trouble. My filter cartridges get clogged rather quickly (less than 3 weeks) and need to be changed, i have tried rinsing them off with tank water but it only helps for 2 days or so. I have been looking into getting a cannister filter either a filstar or fluval 405. I also looked at the emperor filters (hob) as well. My tank water appears to have like white dust (possibly) off the cartridge always floating around, and it never seems to get sucked out, i just want what we all want which is sparkling crystal clear water. I am running a 55 gallon tank. Looking for your opinions.

I just got the Hydor Prime 30 for my 55, I still run a Penguin 350 as well but that's out of personal choice right now.
Seems to be doing a good job if not a little too good.. lol.. Not used to seeing my tank so sparkly.
It's got a see-through case don't know if that is going to look disgusting in time whether it's a good thing or not but it's behind closed doors so not a big deal.
I have read but dont' know if it's true that the Hydor Prime is a clone of the Eheim Ecco.

This site has little circles you can mouse over to see some of the features.
http://www.hydor.it/inglese/prime.htm link fixed.

Big Als' online are currently selling the HP30 for $89.99 US.

i am looking at the rena filstar xp2, fairly cheap, great reviews, if i get this one i might keep my power whisper 30 running as backup

I agree with Gamer

If you do canister go with the XP3. you can find them on big Al's for like 20 bucks more than the Xp2. I am currently running 2 Aquaclear 70's also and my water is fine. They are pretty quiet and filter well. Are you using a air pump?? If not u can run your Whipser as well to provide oxygenation.

personally I'd go with one can and an HOB. I'm partial to Eheims, so Id due a 2217 I think Dr foster and smith has them for like $102 at least they did a couple weeks ago. Then due an Ac hob IMO
