I have finally gotten fed up with the filtration in my tank. I have a 55g tank with 1 red devil, 1 pleco, 1 catfish and 1 gold fish. My current filtration is an Under Gravel Filter and 2 Over the Back Filters. These OtB's seek to need cartidges replaced every 1 - 2 weeks. This is just gettin a little exhausting. What would be the best filtration I could possibly turn to? Perhaps a cannister, bio wheel or sump?

I have cannisters on my two larger tanks. But on my two 55 gallon tanks, I just have two whisper 30-60 HOB filters. I just rinse the filters out with water when I do a water change. It is not that much extra work.

Canisters also need rinsed out. I also have HOB filters on my larger tanks, plus the canisters. I took the sponges out of half of my canisters and am just using the other media in them. I let them catch the big stuff and the HOB catch the small stuff.

My water in my tanks is very clear. People that come by that have or have had fish tanks always ask how I keep them so clean and clear...

I tell them, too much filtaration is just enough, water changes (with a gravel vac), and not to over feed.

I like the HOB filters...

I prefer RUGF and canisters.
