I've got a 36" tank in the process of maturing and have two fish to go in when its ready a black moor and a fancy chinese type goldfish. when my new tank is all set up what other types of fish will be suitable to go with them. i fancy a rainbow shark but dont know whether they would be compatable. as a bottom feeder is a grouber suitable or would i be better with something like a cory?? want a coulourful variety but fish that are hardy and compatable

The trouble with goldfish is the tank mates they can have with them. They shouldn't be placed with tropical fish such as cories (which they can eat if the goldies are big enough) and rainbow sharks because of diet and water teperature needs. You need to find something that can be in the same type of tank. You will reallly be pushing it if adding anymore fish to the tank, perhaps some white clouds would work.

I gave some advice on filters and stuff in your other post... but i would say only keep goldfish together. I would say you could probably add one more fancy goldfish. I have 3 in a 55 gallon, but I do water changes every 3-4 days. I also have two golden mystery snails. Snails are cool too, you just need to make sure that if you buy snails like mine, that they dont end up reproducing for you. Its not hard to get snail eggs off of a tank though. But my recommendation would be to only have goldfish in that tank, they'll get along the best together. There's so many more breeds of fancy goldfish, you should check it out, but only if you are willing to do water changes like i do. Good luck!

you would have to research temperate (coldwater) fish, no tropicals will do well in a goldfish tank, and goldfish do not do well at tropical temps. i don't think you have enough room to keep any more fish in there anyway, until you get more experience at fishkeeping.

If you have enough filtration and do at least weekly, but probably need to do twice weekly water changes, you could most likely put a dojo loach in with them . Dojo loaches will be too large for them to eat and are a coolwater loach. But only do this if your filtration and maintenance schedule allows. Ok...I just looked at the size of tank you have. I wouldn't add the dojo unless you step up to a 55G tank or so. Both of your fishies are going to get rather large as it is.

I've got an undergravel filter and a normal filter to run together will this be enough. when using a filter do you have them running constantly or just for a few hours a day. dont worry not got the fishies in there yet so wont haven't harmed them by doing wither way!!! the tank is 36" by 1' what size is this in gallons?? (cannot do coversions). am just thinking of maybe getting a red cap to go with them but not sure yet will review it when have them in their new home and observed ammonia etc for a few weeks. if it gets to dirty quickly wont add anymore!

I'm thinking 30 - 40 gallons but that's a total guess, someone else would need to chime in there. It's ok to have bothe the UGF and a hang on filter, just be sure to be good and diligent when doing your weekly vacuuming as you don't want a mess growing in there. This can be lethal.... For this very reason, some folks use an Reverse flow kinda thing which I am not familiar with but I'm sure someone else can chime in. I'm thinking you should not get any additional fish for now, just get it going with those you have now. When you do get a handle on things, then we can think about if they need more and if your tank can handle it. One more thing, when you get the filters for the tank, they need to be running 24/7. And it's advised you get a heater too. The heater isn't to warm the water but to keep it stable. I had mine set for 74 and my fish did extremely well with it. I wish you the best of luck once this ball gets rolling for you.... be patient, you have about 6 weeks ahead of you.

got a heater all set up. and ill get a gravel vacumm tomorrow cos dont want to have to go through emptying that tank again its too heavy without water in it
P.s not getting any more fishies to go in just yet so dont worry!!!
