I recently got three comets and I have been feeding them a wide range of food.

Live food, big flakes little ones, pellets etc.

When I have put the normal fish food in they eat it normally when I treat them with live food they get really excited and today I was reading about all the other things you can feed them so I tried carrots and they eat them but then I got a single pee and squashed it over the tank and the insides went into the tank and I have never saw the fish eat so fast they eat every single bit and were looking for more they really really enjoyed it.

Apparently they like alot of foods and you can just try them with it but pee's worked best for me! Worth a shot for any of you guys on a low budget (saves your normal fish food)

Most of use feed a variety of food to our fish. Generally you need to have a good well balanced staple pellet. Usually it is best to use the koi foods. You then add in the other foods as a treat not to save money. The fish need their balanced nutrition. In the wild they eat all sorts of different things everyday.

Please make sure that you are cycling your tank correctly and that you have a big enough one for all three comets.

Hey Cyborg, there are many quality foods available for goldfish. If you scroll down in this forum a bit, there is a long thread about goldfish nutrition and what foods are recommended.

My basic instructions are to feed a sinking pellet as a staple food. The pellet should be composed mainly of seafood protein such as whole salmon, herring, etc - not grains like wheat or corn. My top recommended brands are ProGold, Hikari, OmegaOne, Dainichi.
This should be used in regular rotation with fresh vegetables like romaine lettuce, spinach, cucumber, and peas. Live or frozen foods are also an excellent addition - bloodworms and brine shrimp, for example. Variety is the key.
Finally, as a treat you can feed your fish orange slices, earthworms, and shrimp.

Foods that are NOT recommended are off-brand flakes, any food with grains or starches as the main ingredient, white bread, tropical fish food, or sugary fruits like grapes or peaches.
Also, be sure any live foods come from a reputable source, are frozen into cubes, or raise them yourself. Live foods can contain parasites and pass them on to your fish, so take care when using them.

Looks like you already got great feeding advice, Cyborg... so I'll just add my congrats about your comets. They're such beautiful fish and have such sweet personalities. You're going to love it.

Share some photos for us whenever you can!!

Also Flaring you know how you said about the Brineshrimp and to grow them your self how do you go about doing that? My local shop is a really BIG store with loads and loads of fish and everything you could ever need for them it's huge so I am quite lucky. They have brineshrimp in a tank but I am scared about my fish catching something from them if I feed them the Shrimp.

Thanks for the help.
