Whats the best food for jack dempseys, i plan on breeding own, should i breed guppies, ghost shrimp, snails or what?

A good balanced prepared food, I use hikari cichlid pellets for a staple, guppies snails shrimp etc. should be used as treats, each provides some nutrition, but no one live item will provide a complete diet and keep your fish healthy long term.

i was gonna ask if a dempsey would work in my setup.......125 gallon tank just waiting on some heaters......and i have a green teror and a rt at least thats what they say it is.........so i have alot of room left....and i wouldnt mind having a jd....and with its aggressiveness i think the gt could handle it

im sorry i prolly should of started a new thread...sorry if i imposed

pshychadelicdrea,

That sounds like an excellent set up for a jack dempsey. Be cautious however, of the agression of the Green Terror. Since they are similar in coloring and shape they may be agressive towards each other. I had a Green Terror i had to return because he beat up all of my tank mates. Sometimes i would wake up in the middle of the night and hear him hissing at my other fish! Be cautious and you may need a divider for the first week so they can adjust.
