Right now there is just live rock in my tank and a clown. Before i started this tank, my initial goal was to have a reef tank. However, I didnt realize how many gorgeous fishes that going reef cuts out (in other words, my most favorite fish at the fish store, the guy always tells me no, not reef safe). Here are some of the fish that I like so much:

This got me thinking if I was better off just doing a FOWLR tank. I really love corals as well but at the same time, i want some spectacular looking fish like the ones above.

Can anyone list some really cool looking reef safe fish so I can decide if I want to go FOWLR or not?

Thanks

I order from petsolutions.com, free shipping offer.

I love butterflies! have a few dwarf angels, the larger angels are prettier but don't think they are reef safe.

My Mandarin Dragonet is my favorite, but he is definately not a beginner fish. They need a well established tank with plenty of copepods to eat (most won't eat prepared foods). A refugium helps a lot with the copepods. Clowns and dwarf angels are some of my favorites and less demanding as well.

Lots of wrasses are reef safe. Love the radiant wrasse myself. If you are interested in Triggers, some folks have sucess with crosshatch and blue throats. Triggers are going to take out mobile inverst like snails, crabs and shrimp but there are some that are not coral munchers.

I agree with the Dragonets being a great reef fish had a little spotted that was beautiful and active part of the tank, I also enjoyed my lawnmower blenny ,suffered from a excess of personality. Those were my two favorite reef safe fish.

green mandarin goby - kool fish!

each to their own, but i like the Common Clownfish. They are fun active, and don't look all that bad when healthy. But thats just me. I also like the look of Coral Beauty, Rusty, Pygmy Yellow-tail, Black Nox, and Flame angels (may harm coral). And Firefish, and Blue Tangs(will not harm coral).
