Our local fish store charges about 6 bucks for live rock. Considering we need about 40-50 pounds more, thats a little steep for us. I was wondering if anyone knew any reliable online stores that sell live rock cheaper.

dr froster and smith at liveaquaria.com... I have no personal exp w/them but I have read a lot of reviews on them and they seem pretty good. I think if you quarantine them well you shouldn't have a problem. I

I think $6 a pound for live rock isn't out of the ballpark, if it's good quality. In my area it's $7 to $9 in the pet/fish store.
Your best bet is getting it from other hobbyists. Check craigsllist or any aquarium clubs or local (online) forums in your area. Try to find some really purple rock from an established aquarium.
Really good deals on really good live rock are few and far between because it is the most expensive part of a reef aquarium and everyone is looking for it.

snapshooterr right, its better to pay for quality now and reap the benefits than buying something cheaper and paying for down the road...Best of luck

You can also buy good quality dead rock for $2-3 a pound and then just get a few pounds of really good live rock and let the seeding begin.

It takes longer, but it is pretty economical.

tampa bay saltwater, the guy can ship to your door via UPS or FedEx i dont remember which but the cheaper alternative(much cheaper) is to get it shipped to your local airport via freight and get it that way he has base rock and live rock that is literally out in the ocean i ordered from him and he makes sure you get exactly the type of rock that you want

I did this. I liked working with him very much, but this is rock straight out of the ocean. It is not cleaned in any way and you will get epic hitchikers.

I got at least two tiger gobies, a sea urchin, several (large) crabs, and 3 mantis shrimp. It was gorgeous rock, but there really isn't any way to make it yours. You get what you get, you have to keep it submerged and that's it.

I really prefer having a lot more control over my tank and spend a lot less effort getting rid of nuisance hitchikers.

I got some mantis cleared them out, working on clearing out the crabs not that hard really, have a pistol shrimp again IMO not a biggie, my gf wanted an urchin so woot dont have to buy one, in the end im extremely happy with the rock i got.

i will agree that you get what you pay for
