In my 40 gallon planted tank I have a fluval 405 as my filter. There is one "dead spot" in the tank where there is no circulation. I am looking at putting a powerhead at the opposite end of the tank and have it circulate that end of teh tank.

Does anyone have a particular brand of powerhead that they would recommend?

Definitely go with Koralias - most efficient and most bang for your buck. I would prefer even a knock off Koralia to a name brand Maxi-Jet. If all you are looking for is circulation, look to the newer "circulation pumps" rather than the old fashioned powerheads like Maxi-Jets and AquaClears.

For a tank that small a Koralia would be your best bet. if you want bang for the buck look into a modded MaxiJet. When I was running a 75 gal hillstream style tank I used a single modded MJ 1200 and it was too much. I had to install the smaller propeller to keep the tank from becoming a jacuzzi.
