i have the marineland hex 5 and I have loved it for the past few years. Easy to work on, and pretty silent. But if you dont like the hex shape (im not much of a fan either, but this is what my mom bought as a surprise) you could look into the other 5g tank by marineland. The filter is pretty good considering most included filters are too small. I know this one has helped me filter out several bacterial blooms (along with some water changes).
I'm a big fan of the Marineland 5g hex kits, they look nice, are affordable, and work great for a betta or some shrimp. I've had mine for a couple months, and I've never had any problems.
If you've never had an aquarium on your desk before, I suggest the smaller 2.5 than a 5g. I once had a whole 10g on my desk in college and things got messy when it came to water changes. Things were so much easier for me when I switched to a 2.5 betta tank my senior year.
Nice tank Jumko! Love it. And I would love the fluval fishboss but I just upgraded to a 55 gal in my room and most of my money is going to that project. Def going to do some shopping around this weekend though. Prob a toss up between the Eclipse and Marineland. Pretty excited, not gonna lie. I'll post pics and what not on what I decide. Thanks again for the help all!
I hope you get a good tank. Just make sure that the included filter has a high enough gph flow rate to keep the tank looking nice for people coming into a docters office. I know that my doctors office has a nice tank, in the beginning it looked like crap, but last time I went in I noticed a new filter and it looked really nice. (I also think someone stepped up and started cleaning it as well) I know that when I went in feeling like crap, looking at a filthy fish tank and the food network on tv certainly didnt help me at all.
