best SMALL CHEAP UV sterilizer for 10-20gallon

I seem to have a bit of an algae problem, as well. I do not have greenwater, but have more algae than I would like on some rocks, decorations, etc. I have cut back on the amount of food I would feed; decreased the amount of time the light was on down to 8 hours/day; and purchased a small pleco and a few algae-eating shrimp.

All of this has reduced the amount of algae, but not eliminated it. Would a UV sterilizer help with this problem? I thought maybe not, as the water goes thru the UV device and does not shine directly on the affected areas - but I wanted to ask to make sure. I read the articles in post #2 of this thread before asking this question, but although interesting, it did not quite answer my question.

Thanks,
Mike

it will kill any waterborne algae, floating around, but not the algae fixed to rocks.

the other thing I love about the sterilizer I got is that the bulb unit is detachable, so it's effectively a powerhead. I added a sponge filter to the intake, instead of the UV bulb, and am using it to direct flow in my 20 gallon tank. it's great to have.
