trying to price around, so far www.petmountain.com has the best price incl. $6.99 shipping for sea salt!

so what is your recommendation for master test kits?

The API test kits can be used on freshwater and saltwater, well most of them I think.

API is good enough for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate so I would get the API master test kit. You'll also need a KH test kit, you could get an API one but I would get a Salifert one if you can they are more accurate.

You'll also need a hydrometer or refractometer to check the salinity. Refractometers are far more accurate but they are more expensive.

so I think the difference between SW vs FW master kit is SW has no low ph test so since FW has both hi & low FW kit should do.

+1

and yes and no, salt water test kits don't need low range pH, salt buffers the pH up, but some pH tests for salt could test for low pH, depends on the test.

I use the deep6 hydrometer. will continue to use my api FW master kit & now have GH/KH test kit.
