Anyone forsee any issues with this combonation?....I have the Beta and 6 Amano shrimp in my 10 gallon now and am planning on putting my 5 Corys in there as well. When I first put the amanos in there the Beta was definatley curious...was worried he was going to eat them but I think its cool now. So I guess the question is will the Beta attack the Corys?

The betta will likely check the cories over pretty closely, and may chase them a bit, but probably won't hurt them. I would not add 5 at once--that's a huge increase to the bio-load and probably will cause an ammonia spike.

Hmm.. that might be getting close to over stocking your tank, for me personally. But I think you will be fine with the combination. I kept cories/betta/Guppies/amano shrimp in a 29 with no problems. Every body got a long very well. The betta would always show that he was boss of the tank but would not chase anyone down like he would another male betta. It would be more like a Zebra danio chasing another one in the tank. Chase for a second and then get bored. So this combo that you have, no problem. The shrimp and cories will be on the bottom of the tank. And the betta will tend to hang on all levels. You will notice that he will hide among the plants and any drift wood you may place in there.

The corys should be fine with your betta....the shrimp however..lol...not sure. I had some ghost shrimp in with some of my betta and they all ended up eating them sooner or later.
I would have to say this will not happen. More than likely, the ghost shrimp just perished, they tend not to survive to long. I have yet to meet anyone that has kept them for over a year. The amano though tend to live a while, i had a pair for over 3 years. Plus they get about 1.5 inches long. They are pretty good size and the betta usually leaves them alone. Plus given plenty of hiding spaces the shrimp can disappear and not be bothered by the betta if he feels like molesting someone in the tank.

No, actually I watched my betta eat them.....attack them actually...saw it with my own eyes...they were alive and kicking when the betta went for them...and that was after they had been in the tank with that betta for at least 2 weeks....lol...guess he got bored with it. That happened to ALL the shrimp I had in with my bettas.

I do agree though, that once the shrimp gets to a good size the betta is more likely to leave them alone, but watch them while they're little.

Man thats a little scary. I might contimplate getting rid of the Betta then. He kind of came free with the tank, but my idea was just to have amano's and corys in there.

Knashash,
I would hold off on getting rid or your betta. Each fish is different and he may not attack your shrimp. Like i said, give them a hiding place, under either a piece of slate or driftwood and they should be fine. Like I said I have kept Bettas with Amanos for years with no problems.

k....ill keep an eye on it. I have a nice piece of driftwood and a few plants so hiding spots are not an issue....thanks for the responses
