i just rescued a betta from my lfs and i was wondering the best way to naturally help him recover color. his head starts out black then his body is awsome (behind the scales is black but the scales themselves are metalic grey) then right near the tail the grey turns to a metalic blue ot turquise. then most of his tail is the most beutifull red i seen on a betta ever. i was wondering how to naturally bring these colors out more right now hes in a decent sized bowl waiting for xmass to go into his 5 gallon bowfront.

ive read about excersizes and some people do a strange once a day feeding scedual and they keep them in the dark for a week.

does anyone know if these work. also will live foods help any. due to the fact i raise praying mantises i have a surplus of fruit flies (both regular:melanogastor, and giant:hydie) and ive heard bettas love them.

the best way is to bring out betta's striking provide him with excellent water conditoins, and a comfortable home. keep up on water changes so if there is any fin damage, the fin regrowth can be done in excellent water changes. A 5 gal is perfect for him.

Good reply, gman52

Also, feed a varied diet worthy of a carnivore. Frozen or F/D bloodworms, F/D tubifex, Frozen or F/D brine shrimp. Freeze dried Daphnia is good to feed once a week to help with any constipation. Don't feed live tubifex or daphnia, frozen or freeze dried only. I mostly feed my bettas frozen stuff, with daphnia once a week.

IMHO pellets are "okay", but I prefer non-prepared "real" foods for my bettas. Again, that's just my opinion on pellets.

There are special foods you can buy that will bring out the colors more, and I'm sure someone will know what the ones you can feed to bettas are and whether they are good or not.

feed color enhancing foods, like brine shrimp, color enhancing betta pellets, krill, frozen blood worms, etc.

Some good suggestions above. This company makes a great flake and freeze dried line. If you were looking for somewhat of a staple type food I think it's a great product. I try to keep frozen fair is more of a treat but I wouldn't recomend not feeding a flake or pellet at all, or you'll have food snobs like my rams. They'd starve before they'd eat flakes. Also it's a good idea to rehydrate freeze dried foods. I use plastic Dixie cups for this, they work great for thawing frozen food too.

as requested . these pics are terrible and i had to move him into a little tiny bowl to photograph him cause the bowl hes in now is frosted glass but much bigger. hes not getting any more pics till he gets in his 5 gallon cause i dont want to stress him again.

again these pics are not very good (ps the water isnt cloudy its the light from the other side.
