Hello all,

I need some advice on an issue with my new Betta fish. I have a newly set up 20L tank at the office and after several weeks I have finally introduced a betta to the tank this morning. I have put a black background at the back of the tank and since the tank is still new there is no algae at all anywhere. So the back glass is quite reflective and the Betta is flaring up constantly against its own reflection. It has been a couple of hours and it has not stopped trying to fight its reflection.

The easy solution is obviously remove the background but I have a hang-off-back filter which the background is hiding. I may have to eventually come to that solution but first I want to have your opinions on what else I can do.

(1) With some time algae growth on the glass will make it less reflective and the problem will go away?
(2) Or will the Betta wise up and stop chasing its own reflection?

Thanks

Very nice looking setup and a handsome betta!

I would just let him do his thing as long as he is doing all the other normal things. Eating, pooping, etc.

Nothing wrong with the HOB filter, but bettas don't need or prefer water flow. Probably best to keep the water flow set low if you can.

UPDATE: The betta does not flare against its own reflection all day anymore. He still does it once a while for a few minutes and then moves on. He spends most of his time behind the background stem plants so I hardly get to see him out in the open. But other than that everything seems normal.
