Double that even considering he was already pretty old when I bought him? Know what I mean? I'm not saying he lived 5+ years, I'm saying he lived 5+ years after I bought him when he was full grown, he could have already been 10 years old for all I know.

aside from the high water condition demand that need to be met for the goldfish because of how messy they tend to be as they get bigger, another important issue is that they can quickly become stunted as they mature by the hormones they produce in the water. When stunting happens, their body stops growing st some point but their insides don't... and that often leads to an early death for them.
