Betta in a bowl

I have a betta in bowl with a silk plant, gravel, in about 2 litres of water. He's next to the computer with a desk lamp for light. I keep it covered except when I'm at the puter. Lately my cat has been up drinking from the bowl.
Betta doesn't seem to mind. Question is, is the dechlorinator in the water toxic to kitties?

I wouldn't think it's directly toxic, but it can't be good for the cat at all! I'd keep it covered at all times or keep the cat out of the room, just in case.

I really don't think he'd know what to do with it but, nope, no snacking on Billy the Betta......nope.

i dont think the dechlorinator would be any more toxic than the chlorine itself. i wouldnt worry about it too much; dogs and cats dring from the toilet bowl and lick themselves, fishwater should be no problem

Knowing how picky some cats can be he might just be drinking the water he finds to be the most fresh.

This cat tends to prefer running water and jumps up to the bathroom sink to drink from the faucet. I think maybe he finds the fishy taste a bit more tasty, or maybe its just because its there. Kind of like Mount Kilimanjaro or Everest. Never know what they're thinking. =^^=

Dechlorinator is fine, infrequent water changes will be a problem...

Bacteria is a problem.

heh, I've heard many stories about dogs and cats drinking aquarium water- none ending in tragedy. Fish are much smaller, and in theory it would take a smaller dose to harm them. It's possible that it could be toxic to the cats and dogs and not fish, but my guess is seeing how it's in minute quantities, and we're exposed to it all the time without harm, I don't think it can be too bad...

I looked on my Aquasafe- it doesn't say it's toxic, or have a poison control number on it... Doesn't mean you should mix it in your gin and tonic, but a little minute exposure's probably not going to do any harm.
