I've been reading conflicting things online.

Some places say a male betta can be in a community tank aslong as there's only one beta...and no other fish has long fins.

Is this true?

I have a friend who wants to give me her betta. ...he's not doing well with her so she wants to give him to me.

I've got a tank with
5 tiger barbs
6 zebra dainos
6 clown loaches
3 sword tails (50fry in another tank!)
2 blue rams
2 bala sharks
2 common plecos

any of these pose a threat/is in danger from the betta?

thanks!
Allan!

Well, if its not doing well, i'd be afraid to introduce some disease into your tank. Could you put him in a 5g of his own?

Also, its hit and miss for bettas in a community, it all depends on the buggers personality. I do see some potential problems with your current inhabitants. The tiger barbs may nip his fins, and he may get bullied by the other fishes.
What size tank is it?

55g tank.

i don't think the betta is diseased...just...stressed because of the tank size. she says when she does water changes...it doesn't look well. i guess she doesn't know tap water is bad and should be dechlorinated.

Community Betas really are hit or miss.

from my experience alone, I wouldn't recommend it with your tank. Like Spartan said especially with those tiger barbs.

However I do have a betta in a 20 gallon tank with:

11 Zebra Danios
and
3 Cory's
(the danios don't even seem to notice him)

Yea, most tigers are fin nippers and either they will nip his pretty fins or they might kill him :\ however, it might work out... so you just never know... its a chance
