Betta selection

Reposting because everyone is too busy being immature in the General Forum to answer...

I was looking at some bettas the other day (in their sad little cups), and I noticed that some were the normal pitiful cup bettas with drooping fins while there were a few with long, flowing fins that stood out nicely. Are the healthier looking ones "fresher", i.e. been in the cup less time, or are they constantly flaring out in the agressive manner because they see the other bettas in the neighboring cups making them both more stressed out and possibly more agressive (i.e. not good for a community tank)?

as you know, male bettas are quite aggressive towards others of their own kind, and mine was a constant flarerer, still is. my betta was a little agressive towards my other fish at first, too, but soon accepted them. don't worry about the flarers, they're fine!

Nerdy: the more they flare the healthier they are. The guys with "drooping fins" is often seen when he is resting or when there is excessive lack of stimuli (boredom). In my experience (and I have alot with bettas) they will almost always perk up when given a proper and comfortable home with lots of attention. Being curious fish, bettas like the attention you give them as well as a well suited envirnment.
