So I got my betta Ozz to start to jump for his food! It is THE cutest thing! He wiggles his back end almost like a cat getting ready to pounce and then he jumps out of the water to get a pellet. :perv:

I'm gonna see if I can get it on video

My betta used to jump all the time. Can't wait for the vid!

I would love to see a video of this as well. I know by nature, bettas are able to jump for their food but I've never seen it in person. Neat trick! :)

Yeah I wouldn't say I "taught" him, he just figured out that if he jumps up he gets a pellet. Either way REALLY cute! Never thought I could like a fish this much. :)

Be careful and make sure your tank is FULLY covered at all times, now that you've taught this fish to jump out of the water. Years ago, I had trained a Jack Dempsey to jump about 8 inches out of the water for food -- one day, he jumped out of a small uncovered area by himself -- I guess he thought he saw some food -- and landed outside of the tank and died.

Yeah I already thought about that. His tank has a plastic cover that goes under the hood and the hood only has a small slot to slide food into which is always closed.
