Sorry to hear that. 4 years is as long as expected for a happy betta but that doesn't make it any easier except he knew he cared for. That's a lot. I hope you get more fish. I'm new here too. There are a whole lot of people here who have years of experience to help get a new tank started. Doesn't have to be big.
Nano tanks aren't so looked down on these days and there are people who will help you get them going. Fish are so sweet. I hoping for pygmy corydoras in mine. They aren't beautiful like bettas but are super cute and funny. Give them a couple of easy plants and a hunk of wood and you will not be sorry.
Either way don't give up. If your done for now that's okay. But keep this info that you loggied in here for help with and come back some day.
