Betta with ich

Ok...here is the update. I put a towel on the top of the tank and I have been able to keep the temp at 88* for almost a week. I have 1 1/2 tsp of salt in there as well. Nothing has changes other than the betta is more active. There has been NO CHANGE in his spots. I am really at a loss. If this were ich, the spots should have fallen off by now. So now what? Do I use the quick cure or what?

Post a picture here if you can at all. IT most likely is not ich or velvet as you have described it. Velvet will take more than salt to kill, ich will not. Velvet is extremely rapid and would not be on your fish this long without killing it. I would not subject your fish to Malechite green until you have a positive ID on what the issue is. Even at temperatures in the low 70's you should see a change in a matter of a week or so. As long as you have maintained salt levels the whole time you should be able to rule out ich.

I have no way to post a pic although I really really wish I did! The spots are all white, one of them is larger than the others though. And the spots are sticking to the body, not going to the fins. I have searched all over the internet and cant find a pic of anything that looks just like it. All the pics of ich I have found all have smaller spots. The spots this fish have are slightly bigger than the ones in the pics i have found. He seems to be in good spirits though. I just wish I knew what to do to help this little guy.

I have never seen ich that wasn't fairly uniform in size. It only grows to roughly the size of a grain af table salt beofre it sheds off of the fish. Additionally if you have spots that are identifiable and have not moved or changed in several days then I would definately say it isn't ich.

Fungus or bacteria maybe? Contrary to poular myth, salt does not always heal up fungus, and seldom does anything for bacterial infections.
