First of all, I have to say I'm glad the site is back up b/c those others I know about are of very little help...anyway on with the question. I have been treating my boyfriends little brothers betta for ich for the last 8 days. He is in a 1g tank that has no heater. I have no way to raise the temp which is at 76* now. I have been treating with 1 1/2 tsp salt this whole time and there has been no change except for his side fins are starting to get holes and he is no longer clamping up. Weird huh? I have no idea what this is? It must not be ich since it hasnt fallen off. I guess this fish has had this for quite some time and it has never fallen off according to the brother. What do I do now?

The high temps really speed the process up, so without it the salt alone will work but just slower. Can you diagnose the betta through pictures? There are some good illness sites on the web. Do a google search for ich and betta.

I have been searching google and cant find anything that looks like this. It looks just like ich. Maybe a little darker in color. It isnt bright white, but more of a creamy white color.

I have two oscars that had got ick. I went to the petstore and got some 'liquid Super Ick Cure". It worked very well and in a few days, the ick was gone. It should come with directions but if not you want to be sure to remove the active carbon (if there is any in your filter).

Can A betta fish get velvet? I have never even heard of it. Does anyone have any good pics of what it looks like? I looked it up under yahoo images and couldnt really find anything..

Maybe it is velvet. Some of the spots are larger than others. Should I treat this with salt also? Or should I use something like that green stuff(cant remember the name lol)?

I have been reading up on the velvet, and now I'm not so sure thats it, b/c what I am reading says it attacks the gills first and must be caught quickly. This fish has had whatever it has for months and is still seems to be doing okay as in his eating habits and swimming and what not. So maybe it really is ich it is just taking a very very long time to fall off because of the temp of the water. Geeze....this is a freakin riddle..lol.

Thanks Primetime...so according to the article you just gave me, it doesnt matter which it is, it is still treated the same. So I should make sure I am doing regular water changes and adding salt. If it doesnt clear up in another week I will try the malachite green. I always hate using meds unless salt doesnt work. Thanks for the info. :)
