Betta with Tetra/Cory/Pleco?

Guppies seem like pretty violent little guys. Do you think I could substitute them for the Betta?

3 Male Guppies (or should I go 1 Male/2 Female? I don't want tons of guppies though)
5 Neon Tetra
5 Black Neon Tetra
3 Corries
1 Pleco

I don't see any immidiate problems with the setup, but I could be confusing information.

Sorry for not specifying, it will be a 37 gallon tank. Think I should stick with similar numbers to that? More? Less?

That sounds okay to me, too, but I'm no expert really. If it wouldn't be overstocking, maybe add a couple more cories? They really love the company. And I think the guppies would be best with a M-F-F set up. Sure, they'll have babies, but if you just let nature take its course, you probably wouldn't have a problem with too many surviving, anyway.

Multiple school of tetras tend to intermix. Black and regular neons will easily school together. If you think that you like the idea of individual schools then it probably won't work. But they will be happy together.

Attempt to find a bristlenose or other fancy pleco that doesn't get too large (regulars get to be 18-24 inches). And many plecos are poor algae eaters so do some research first. Ottos might be a good choice as well.

3 male guppies will be fine and will prevent breeding, thoygh in a community tank that overpopulation won't be a problem.

Before you mentioned black skirt tetras. Well they are quite nippy and wouldn't have worked with the betta.

Thanks for the info on the neon/black neon. I'm not suprised that they may school together.

I was planning on a bristolenose actually, the look is starting to grow on me quite a bit. I have heard that they are a good algae eating alternative to a common pleco.

I think I will go M-F-F on the guppies, I have heard that it is better to keep more females than males, due to their constant breeding attempts.

I was planning, if not overstocked, to add a couple more corries, but I didn't want to overstock in my initial plans, and see if there is room for more, and go from there. I would rather start off "understocked" than overstocked.

Current Plan:
3 Guppies (1 Male, 2 Female)
5 Neon Tetra
5 Black Neon Tetra
3 Corries (I like those orange ones I have seen)
1 Pleco (Bristlenose, Albino Bristlenose?)

What do you more experianced guys think about the plan in regards to being under or overstocked. If possible, I would like to add either a couple more corries, or a couple more guppies.

MOre cories would be my choice as they become so much more active in larger groups. Plus you have a lot of mid to top level fish and very little happening on the bottom.

If you keep any female guppies then yes, 1 male to 2 females in the minimum you want. But keeping all males is fine as they will not have any one to compete for so the aggression will stay low. Either way is fine.

Hmm. Maybe I will ditch some Tetra for a couple more cories.

The mid/top fish woould be the guppies/neons, the mid/bottom would be the cories/pleco? I'm trying to remember what I have seen in all of the tanks/stores/stuff online I have looked at.

3 Guppies (1M/2F)
6 Neon/Black Neon Tetra
5 Cories
1 Bristlenose Pleco

Does that sound better? Overstocked?

I think the above list would be fine, and if you wanted to add a few more corys I would say that would fully stock the tank.

Awesome, thanks, that's what I wanted to hear ;) :)

Maybe I'll add a couple more corries, maybe wait, we shall see.

Now that I've got fish, I can look into plants/substrates.
